Is it time to close the shutter on corporate videos?
It’s fair to say that corporate videos can be awful – time consuming vanity projects, expensive to create, hokey and staged, watched by no one and left to gather dust on the shelf.
But it doesn’t have to be this way, and by ignoring the corporate video, you could be missing out on a cost-effective way to communicate to a large audience.
Whether you are looking to increase the trust in your company through customer testimonials, promote new products or services, or create an engaging training tool for employees, a well produced video is one of the most effective ways of getting your messages across.
When it comes to content, the important thing is to make sure it is interesting and engaging. Before you start the process, make sure you know exactly what you want to achieve with the video, who the audience is, and where you want to use them.
Videos need to be seen, and effective promotion can mean the difference between a viral smash, and an expensive flop. Thankfully, the advent of social media and the rise of video hosting sites like YouTube and Vimeo mean that is easier than ever to share, promote and reach your audiences through video.
If done well, a well-produced sales video can be really flexible. Apart from providing content for your company website, they can also be used to add substance and build presence on blogs and social media profiles, as background videos at conferences, and as part of sales presentations.
Video content also has real SEO value, and just like with text, videos can be optimised with keywords to help raise rankings. They also have the added benefit of keeping visitors on your site longer, which helps make your site seem more authoritative to search engines.
We recently produced this video for Coachman Caravans. It was designed to promote some of the innovative features of its new 2012 range, and to give potential customers a brief overview about Coachman and its values.
They’ve used it on both the website, their social media profiles and at trade shows, and it has been really popular, generating over 4,100 views on Vimeo.
Another perception is that corporate videos are expensive, but they don’t have to be. 30 second testimonials from clients hosted on your website make for great content, and because the endorsement is delivered by the customer themselves, they provide a real boost to your company’s credibility.
